“God has given us this second chance. Nothing will keep me from taking it. Not wealth or my family name. Nothing.” Six years ago Agnes learned a shocking secret that sent her running from Buffalo, New York to the Dakota Territories in the Black Hills there she became a school teacher and confirmed old maid. But the past has a way of catching up.
James Harris, a childhood friend, and former sweetheart accepts a position as town doctor in the same town as Aggie. Faced with finding out the truth and why she moved to Penance just might answer some questions James has had.
A historical romance where morals dictate social standing, a place in the 1880’s where disease can wipe out families at the blink of an eye. The author introduces us to character’s with flaws like we have. We are not perfect, sometimes we do not make the right choices, but God has plans for all of us just like He did with Aggie and James.
A story about belonging and being accepted regardless of our past. I love Rachel Fordham’s books because the character’s struggle with the same life issues we have. The author is a master storyteller, each book that I have read pulls me in from page one. I recommend all of Rachel’s books.
I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my opinion.
